Mount Isa City Library

MICC_LogoMount Isa City Library houses the extensive Mount Isa Mines historical collection, which includes over 100,000 photographs and negatives, as well as films and video footage.  Mount Isa’s thriving economy continues to be based on the mines first established in the 1920s, so the technology, community life and landscape of a mining town are the focus of these photographs.  Mount Isa Mines and its operations, changing street scenes and developing businesses are documented as well as the vibrant social life of Mount Isa. Material is held from 1930s to 1990 with the majority of photographs being of the 1958-1990 time period.

Mount Isa City covers an area of over 43,310 square kilometres and includes the town of Camooweal. It is located in the heart of North West Queensland - 1829 kilometres from Brisbane, and 883 kilometres from Townsville, the nearest major city. Once a raw frontier town built around the vast mineral resources the city is famous for, Mount Isa has grown into a thriving industrial and commercial centre renowned for its friendly and welcoming nature.

Mount Isa City Library has approximately 15,000 members and services an interesting mix of residents, students and tourists.  As well as the usual library services, the Library has a well-stocked local history collection including:
