Caloundra City Libraries

Caloundra City Libraries’ Heritage Image Collection comprises a significant collection of over 3,000 indexed historically significant photographs, dating from 1870 to the present, depicting the people, places, buildings and events of the towns within Caloundra City. Key areas in the collection include:
- Images referencing beach culture and landscapes – surfing and surf life saving, coastal architecture, early fishing industry, Pumicestone Passage, boating, and beach activities.
- Tourism – images that chronicle the development of Caloundra as an early tourist destination, including early tourism brochures promoting Caloundra as a holiday destination.
- Agriculture and timber - the development of farming and rural lifestyles, including images from the timber industry, and tobacco and pineapple industries.
- War – Caloundra was a significant presence in South East Queensland in World War II. These images comprise a unique collection of personal snapshots that cameo the soldier’s lifestyle while based in the area, including boarding houses, community events, barbed wire on the beaches, and more.
- Pumicestone Passage – images covering boats and boating, associated industries, early fishing personalities, hire boats, landscapes, water sports.
- Landscapes, including the Glass House Mountains.
Caloundra City Libraries' Local Studies Collection comprises a significant photographic collection, oral history interviews, reference books, maps, newspapers, and ephemera. The comprehensive collection records the changes and history from the time of early European exploration and Aboriginal occupation to the present day for the towns, people and districts within Caloundra City.
Copying images for publication or commercial use is not permitted without written consent. Print copies of images may be obtained by contacting Caloundra City Libraries.
