boonah_logoBoonah Shire is located in the Heart of the Valleys of the Scenic Rim and is one of the most picturesque areas in south-east Queensland. Nestled among World Heritage-listed country, the Shire is one of Queensland ’s premier agricultural and horticultural production areas, as well as being one of the most naturally beautiful recreation spots in the State.

Just one hour’s drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the Shire is home to the thriving country towns of Boonah, Kalbar and Aratula, and to two dams, Lakes Maroon and Moogerah. The Shire boasts a full range of recreation and sight seeing activities to suit all tastes, budgets and ages.

The Shire covers 1,921 square kilometres and is home to about 8,500 people. Residents enjoy the relaxed, hospitable lifestyle afforded by the small country towns and villages in the Shire which features fantastic scenery and great outdoors as well as a mix of traditional and alternative forms of rural business and industry.

Boonah Library offers a wide range of services, resources and activities for people of all ages and interests. The Boonah Archives are stored within the Boonah Library and managed by a volunteer Archivist with support from volunteer assistants. 

The historical photograph collection consist of over 6,000 photographic images and displays running with certain themes are regularly showcased within the Library.
